Rose Quartz Nails

Rose quartz nails are super trendy right now, and here’s my take on them:

Ruusukvartsikynnet ovat todella in tällä hetkellä, joten tänään on tarjolla minun versioni niistä:

For guidance, I followed the video tutorial from Ohmygoshpolish, except I didn’t use any gold – in retrospect, I think I should’ve added some gold veins to break the pink and white combo.  Unfortunately, I didn’t take any making of -pictures (I was sure these would turn out crap!). But I was surprised how well these came out! I think I’ll do an improved version of these some time..

Apuna näiden teossa käytin Ohmygoshpolishin videotutoriaalia, mutta ilman kultavanoja. Näin jälkeenpäin ajateltuna niitä olisi ollut hyvä laittaa vähän rikkomaan valkoisen ja pinkin monotoniaa. Valitettavasti en ottanut mitään making of -kuvia, koska ajattelin että ensimmäinen yritys tulisi olemaan huono. Mutta olinkin yllättynyt kuinka hyvät näistä tuli! Taidankin tehdä parannellun version näistä lähiaikoina..

The polishes I used for this look were Essie Muchi Muchi and Spaghetti Strap, and the marbling was done with diluted white acrylic paint. I think I did maybe five layers of nail polish altogether, all with white paint in between layers.

And in the above picture they are mattified with Ella+Mila Matte-ly in Love. I actually think the glossy version is better, but I wanted to show this version as well since that was the end result in the video tutorial I linked above.

Käytin näihin Essien Muchi Muchi- ja Spaghetti Strap -lakkoja, ja marmoriefektin sain aikaan piirtämällä viivoja valkoisella akryylimaalilla kerrosten väliin. Kerroksia taisi tulla yhteensä viisi.

Ja ylläolevassa kuvassa on lopputulos mattaisena – pidin oikeastaan enemmän kiiltävästä versiosta, mutta koska videossa lopputulos oli mattainen, halusin tietysti kokeilla sitäkin.

Quick Minimalistic Space Nails

Okay so the title is a bit weird, but I have conflicting ideas about these nails; somehow I get a really space-y, sci-fi feeling, but also they’re very graphic and minimalistic. Is graphic space a thing…?

Whatever the case, I really, really liked these. I like how they are very cool and eye catching, but still they required minimal effort to do.

Oli miten oli, näistä pidin todella paljon. Yleistunnelma oli hyvin cool ja huomiotaherättävä, mutta silti nämä olivat erittäin helpot tehdä.

I used/käytin

  • Essence 1000 Light Years Away
  • Essie Aprés-Chic

(and I did not freehand the lines, I am just not that good. I used Lina Feeling Shapely 01 for guidance / viivoja en vetänyt vapaalla kädellä, koska en vain ole niin hyvä. Käytin Lina Feeling Shapely 01 -laattaa apunani)

See you later!

Seuraavaan kertaan!

Smooshy Nail Sunday – Green, Light Green, Yellow

Like the title says, this week’s smooshy colors were quite spring-y! I’m not usually a fan of green and yellow – and I have only like, one of each colour, for emergencies – but I figured to give it a shot. Anything to avoid doing my bachelor’s thesis! I’ve been swamped in philosophical hell lately, and let me tell you: not fun. But here is the result!

Polishes used/Käytetyt lakat: Essie Mint Candy Apple, an unnamed green, Tony Moly Cotton Candy Yellow.

The result was kind of dominatingly green, so I went with a forest theme on stamping. The images are from Moyou London Animal 12, and I stamped with the brand’s own It’s a Date! – a glimmering mid-brown. The pointer is kind of pebbly, because obviously I messed one nail up and redid it half-assedly. So pro.

Smooshyn tulos oli aika dominoivan vihreä, joten metsäteema kutsui. Kuviot ovat Moyou Londonin Animal 12 -laatasta, ja leimasin saman merkin It’s a Date! -lakalla, joka on jokseenkin kimalteleva keskiruskea. Etusormi sai osumaa kuivumisvaiheessa, joten se on vähän… tekstuurinen, koska korjasin sen turhan puolihuolimattomasti. Ammattilaisuuteen vielä matkaa, kenties.

Here’s the last shot with Essie – still the best mint there is. Enjoy your Sunday!

Viimeinen kuva Essien kanssa, joka on edelleen se paras mintun värinen lakka. Mukavaa sunnuntaita!

Glittery Pastel Gradient with Flowers

Today is the first day of the Clairestelle8’s monthly nail challenge (you can see the prompts in the link), and the prompt was.. pastels! I have had a hankering for radial gradient for quite a while now…

Orange, Pink, and Violet from Tony Moly Cotton Candy collection, topped with China Glaze Fairy Dust.

The colors did give me a pause, but in the end I went for soft and warm orange-pink-violet combination. Tony Moly Cotton Candy collection is so perfect for pastel designs.

I added flowers from BM-XL481, which I’ve been dying to put to use. I used Essie’s Penny Talk for nice rose gold flowers. I really love the style in this plate!

Next up: hearts! What should I do, hmm…

Quick January recap and plans for February

So another month has passed and we’re into February! I thought I’d do a quick recap, show my favourite manis and one smooshy that did not make it’s way into the blog…

First of all, here are my favourites from January:

January’s favorite nails

These are my personal favorites – if I did a collage according to Instagram likes, it would be almost all smooshynailsunday creations, those seem to get the most! I wanted a bit of variation, though. I think I liked the peachy gradient with flowers best. Did you have a favorite?

…and speaking of smooshies, this one I only showed on Instagram, because I did not really like it, and I didn’t add any decorations. It actually looks a lot better in pictures; in real life it was just a vomit-hued mess! Some smooshies look great, some don’t, and this was definitely in the latter category.

Smooshed mess

In February I am going to try to do Clairestelle8’s monthly challenge, since the prompts are not scary! I’m not a big Valentine’s Day fan though, so I might go into a bit of anti-Valentine’s with them…

Are you a Valentine’s Day person?

#smooshynailsunday – Death to Rudolph!

So this week’s prompt was white and red and holo. As I didn’t have the last one, I substituted it with Essie’s Aprés-chic (I am really overusing it this season). The others are Moyou London’s White Knight and Moo Moo’s Signatures’ Fire Rooster.

The end result was.. well, more bloody than festive! Haha!

This amused me, so I decided to take it up a notch: I call this masterpiece In Loving Memory of Rudolph the Reindeer.

Oops, there’s a smudge of peely stuff left.

Now, as you might not know this, we Finns eat reindeer at Xmas time. When Rudolph’s work is done on Xmas Day, on the dinner table he goes! Gobble gobble!

(technically, all Santa’s reindeer are female though. The males would have lost their horns at this time of the year.)

What did you think happens to him?

Celestial animals

I love Gravity. I was so lucky to snatch it on a good price in a Facebook second hand nail polish market group (gosh that’s a long description. But it’s in Finnish so I had to translate – and it’s only one word in Finnish)! All the polishes are so gorgeous in the collection it belongs to.. Stupid Limited Editions, why are you limited? I was not so into nail art and polishes back in 2014 u.u. Picture Polish should bring them back!

ANYWAYS. Gravity is a “top coat”, meaning you layer it on top of darker polish, in my case Kiko’s black. The pictures show two coats:

I just love the color shift, don’t you?

It is like winter sky at night. Darkest time of the year is on us.

And of course I wanted to ruin it with stamping.

Images from Moyou London Animal 12

I think I went a bit too glittery with Essie’s Apres-chic, IF that is possible. The theme in my head was “celestial animals”. Moyou London just released these animal plate series, I instantly grapped this one: I’m a sucker for Slavic influence. They remind me of the Russian fairytales I read as a child..

I need a plainer silver stamping polish, though. That glitter gets everywhere!
