Heart of Stone: Valentine’s Day Nails

I’m not really a Valentine’s Day person. It is probably due to the fact that we don’t really celebrate romantic love in Finland on V-Day; here we celebrate love between friends. Well, to an extent at least. Children might craft cards for their class mates in elementary schools, and people might gift each other with some small tokens like candy or cards, but it’s not a big deal. And of course, romantics and couples might do something on Valentine’s. But compared to say, the super-duper-romantic date night that’s in ALL American movies, we really don’t do much!

So yeah. My Valentine’s Day is going to uneventful, and that’s the way I like it!

Nails, obviously, are a different matter. I like pink and red and hearts all year round, but in the month of February, it’s everywhere! Cute stuff! Glitter! Pink! Did I mention pink?

Which brings me to my Valentine’s Day nails. As you might have noticed, this month I’m doing the clairestell8 challenge, and the prompt for today was a choice between Valentine’s and anti-Valentine’s nails. Hmm, I thought to myself,  is there any way I could do BOTH? And there was. Lo and behold.

I call this Heart of Stone. Drip marble is an excellent technique for stone look, and this definitely looks like it! And somehow, it does remind me of muscles too, don’t you think? A literal heart AND a stone heart! I am very pleased at how this turned out!

I hadn’t tried my hand at drip marble before, so this was a good time for it! (boy, I’ve been doing new stuff lately) The idea in drip marble is to drop globs of nail polish on a nail art mat, or piece of plastic bag (the sort you use for freezing things works fine) on top of each other, and then just rotate the mat/plastic to spread the polish in every which way. After that, let it dry, peel it off the mat, and cut to size. A layer of base coat on you nails, stick the design on top of it, add a top coat, and presto, you’re done. Well, exept for the clean up. I recommend cutting all the extra flap away as much as you can, it makes it easier – as I found out the hard way. Other than that, this was surprisingly easy! And the result is always different, which makes it so cool.

I used a bunch of polishes for this:

  • F.U.N Lacquer Daydream
  • F.U.N Lacquer Just Dance
  • Kiko 243
  • Kiko 826
  • Kiko 288

So that’s my Valentine’s. How’s your day?

Galaxy Nails + Illyrian Polish The Stars Review

I ended up trying out The Stars first from my Illyrian Polish loot. With a name like that, it obviously made a great base for galaxy nails! These are my first galaxy nails – why haven’t I done them before? I’ve loved so many galaxy manis on Instagram it’s insane.

Anyways, they turned out great for a first try!

Btw, I suck at free hand art. The “stars” are a bit wonky. I suppose it’s due to lack of practise.

I used so many polishes for this, haha!

  • Illyrian Polish The Stars
  • F.U.N Lacquer Illusion
  • F.U.N Lacquer Unicorn Island
  • a england Let Me In
  • a england Cathy
  • Picture Polish Cosmos
  • Picure Polish Lakodom
  • Moyou London White Knight

I didn’t use all of them on all nails; it’s more of a mix and match. One learns as one goes on! For tools I used simply few little cut up pieces of a make up sponge, and a dotting tool.

If you’re looking for easy nail art to do, I definitely recommend this – just pat some color on and then some different color on top of it (keep going until it looks pretty to you), add a few dots, and you’re done! Now I wish I’d taken some pictures of the process to show you, but no such luck. I was too engrossed xd.

Here’s a picture of the base: the background seems a bit yellow in it, but I had to tweak it a but to bring out the real hue. The Stars is so blue, it’s nearly… green? The holoflakes shine so prettily in the light!

F.U.N Lacquer New Year 2017 Collection

So I went a bit crazy. I saw this collection on Instagram and it just hit me: I must have it. I’m not even exactly sure what it was about it! I rarely buy full collections, since it would get very expensive, and there’s always some shades I don’t like.. but this was a hit. I could instantly think of a half dozen nail designs.

Here’s one of them!

I love gradients, so it was an obvious first choice. I didn’t do anything special, this was more of a testing the polishes out. And they delivered. It did take quite a few spongings, since the polishes are jelly-type, but hey, what I would not do for gradients! Oh and this is way more rainbow-shifting-holographic-goodness-y in real life, I loved this so much!

Snowflake nails

So it’s my birthday tomorrow, and I’m SICK. I think? I keep sneezing and I feel quite bad, but NOT AS BAD as when I’m usually really sick. Maybe this’ll pass..

So you understand why I’m not quite up to doing fancy nails. There is just zero inspiration. I wanted something pink, so I went with F.U.N Lacquer’s Daydream (gorgeous), and then I was like, MEH, let’s go with snowflakes.

But then later today, I went to get the post, and lo and behold: my order from Bundle Monster had arrived. I got two plates from the new Winter Kingdom collection, and of course there is snowflakes on one of them. Maybe I should redo my nails? Even MORE snowflakes! It IS a lovely plate, the snowflakes are flowery and cute… you’ll see in a few days!

Don’t rain on my Pink Parade

Anti-Halloween theme continues! Lately, I’ve been obsessed with pink. Love ’em. Can’t get enough. Especially can’t get enough of this.

So GORGEOUS. It’s such a perfect shade of pink, not too dark, not too light, applies easily. I could wear this for days. And I did. But of course I added stamps on top of it, cos who can resist?

It did end up looking rather… busy, but I loved the feathers anyways. It stamped like a dream, all the little details transferred. I do apologize for the shoddy picture, for some reason I did not save a better version. Still kind of learning the ropes here.

And oh yeah, I dyed my hair purple!

Love it! I love ALL the things today! What do you love today?
