Watermarble Wednesday – Blue Flowers

Today I have some blue watermarble flowers to show you. I have admired this style on Instagram for a long time, and now I finally mustered the courage to try them out myself! And they turned out great, if I say so myself!

Tänään on vuorossa sinisiä kukkia vesimarmorointitekniikalla.

As you can see, I still have some trouble with the placement – honest, I don’t know how people get them always aligned properly in every finger. The alignment tends to be slightly off when I’m doing them.

Here are the polishes I used/Lakat joita käytin:

  • Wild & Mild Alaska (as a base/pohjalakkana)
  • OPI Keeping Suzy at Bay
  • OPI Can’t Find My Czechbook
  • OPI Gelato on My Mind
  • Sinful Colors Snow Me White

And I added a coat of China Glaze’s Fairy Dust, to give it sparkle!

Viimeiseksi lisäsin kerroksen China Glazen Fairy Dustia säihkettä tuomaan!

And I had to take a picture of work in progress, ‘cos that’s just so pretty.

Have a nice day everyone!

Ihanaa päivänjatkoa kaikille!

Redoing an Old Mani – Pink Owls

So the last prompt in clairestelle8 Instagram challenge for April was redoing an old mani, and I knew exactly what I wanted to redo: my first stamping attempt. I had, of course, painted my nails in the past, but this stamping business was something new. Born Pretty plate 54 was actually the first stamping plate I ever bought, and it holds a place in my heart still. The owls are so cute!

Here are the original nails that I did back in, well, almost exactly two years ago. They’re… uhm.. well *I* was proud of them then! Looking back now, I do cringe a bit: quality of picture, those cuticles! Live and learn, indeed!

I really don’t remember what I used for that first mani – I know I don’t have either the pink or white anymore (the pink might have been Lumene). For the recreation I used my latest and bestest pink, OPI’s Apartment for Two, and stamped with the usual White Knight.

Uusintayritykseen käytin viimeisintä lempilakkaani, OPI:n Apartment for Two:ta, ja leimaus tuttuun tapaan White Knightilla.

Question of the day: do you remember your first mani?

Smooshy Nail Sunday – Pink, Purple, and Aqua

The title says it all. Actually it was neon pink and neon purple, but hey, I don’t own… neons. Bit too bright for me! I made do with OPI line: Apartment for Two, Suzi and the Seven Dusseldorfsm and Gelato on My Mind.

OPI Apartment for Two, Suzi and the Seven Dusseldorfs, Gelato on My Mind

The result was kind of.. mystic! I like it!

And here’s what I stamped on top of it. I used Moyou London Suki 16, with OPI Keeping Suzi at Bay. The polish is not really meant for stamping, as you can see from faintness of the lines, but I think it went well in any case.

You know, it feels weird to say here are my nails of the day when these were really done on.. Friday and Saturday! And um, this is a scheduled post too. Sometimes I think it’s odd to “speak” in present here when these are done days ahead. Do you ever get that feeling?

PINK! Nails

Again it is clairestelle8 challenge time, and today’s prompt was PINK! (caps lock not mine!) I had just bought OPI Apartment for two from Valentine’s Day sale (lots of full sized OPI shades for 4-6€! I ended up buying six altogether), which turned out to be VERY pink in real life, so it seemed fitting.

The picture shows three coats, but I would’ve managed with two if I hadn’t done all sorts of stuff around the house before taking a picture. It is very pigmented.

I stamped on top of it with Moyou London’s Candy Floss, and the image is from their plate Flower Power 03.

I am So in love with these. At first I thought Apartment for two would be a garish pink, as they easily are, but it is actually the perfect shade. My new favourite!

Smooshy Nail Sunday – Red, Pink, Yellow, and Beige

This Sunday I had a bit more successful smoosh! I wasn’t sure about the combo at first – yellow and red? With beige, of all things? But happily it turned out okay:

Moo Moo’s Signatures Fire Rooster, Chang-E, Tony Moly Cotton Candy Yellow, OPI Be There in a Prosecco

The result reminded me of ice cream! As kids, we used to eat these tricolor ice cream packets, and when it melted a bit in the bowl, it looked a bit like this.

Konad red stamping polish, Hehe plate 088

I added some flowers for good measure. This is actually my entry for clairestelle8’s monthly challenge for 11th of this month: the prompt is “flowers”. So you get to see these first and don’t tell anyone I’m multipurposing my nail art! These will go up on Instagram on the 11th, right on schedule *wink*.

Oh, and a shout out to Moyou London’s Smudge-resistant Top Coat! I tested it out with the Konad red stamping polish, because I know it stains and spreads LIKE MAD, if I’m not careful. Not one smudge, and I used the top coat literally right after stamping! It takes slightly longer to dry than quick dry top coats, but if you’re worried about spreading, I can recommend this. And who says you can’t add a quick dry top coat on top of this?

Quick January recap and plans for February

So another month has passed and we’re into February! I thought I’d do a quick recap, show my favourite manis and one smooshy that did not make it’s way into the blog…

First of all, here are my favourites from January:

January’s favorite nails

These are my personal favorites – if I did a collage according to Instagram likes, it would be almost all smooshynailsunday creations, those seem to get the most! I wanted a bit of variation, though. I think I liked the peachy gradient with flowers best. Did you have a favorite?

…and speaking of smooshies, this one I only showed on Instagram, because I did not really like it, and I didn’t add any decorations. It actually looks a lot better in pictures; in real life it was just a vomit-hued mess! Some smooshies look great, some don’t, and this was definitely in the latter category.

Smooshed mess

In February I am going to try to do Clairestelle8’s monthly challenge, since the prompts are not scary! I’m not a big Valentine’s Day fan though, so I might go into a bit of anti-Valentine’s with them…

Are you a Valentine’s Day person?

Sunday Smoosh and fails

There’s an hour and a half of Sunday still left, and I’m quite tired. I’m supposed to be having a break from school, but still I am all over the place what with seeing people and trying to get assignments done! I have an essay due in one week, and a deformance of a poem due next Friday. Moan moan moan! Woe is me! So stressed!

That’s why it is important to take breaks often to look at nails. I think this is a sound plan.

But my nails have been such fails lately! That’s stressful too! I mean, look at this:

OPI Embrace the Grey, Essence Shade of Happiness, and a green Kiko that I forgot the number of.

The #smooshynailsunday prompt was grey, orange and olive green, and it was meant to be zombie-like. There is so little of zombies here. I think I should stop painting my nails and do ugly impressionistic art instead.

Because I definitely shouldn’t do any sort of recognizable art:

I am so not going to even adjust the light in the picture. And wow, I didn’t even clean up. Go me.

I was going for @nailsbycambria‘s super cute fox nails, but well… xD. Maybe I need practise on freehand?

Please tell me that you fail sometimes too. Please.
